We’ll tell you the word on the street up front. Apparently most of this blend is more than 10 years. Possibly twice as old… Imagine casks-worth of old Speyside single malt being accidentally blended with 10 litres of a 10 year old blend. You’d only be able to say 10 Year Old (age statements denote youngest component), and call it a blend (even if 99% single malt).
Berry Bros. & Rudd – founded in 1698(!) at 3 St James's Street, London – are not simply one of the oldest wine merchants in the world. They also bottle some great whiskies (happy accidents or otherwise). Cutty Sark was born there (a story found elsewhere in this box), and their St. James’s blend existed between 1902-1970s. Officially, we can say this new first batch features Speyside and the Highland malts, with “much of” the “Speyside component” rested in ex-Islay casks for a subtle smokiness.
