Blenders. Independents. Farm to bottle. Irish ale. We hope you love this box as much as we really do. And the guests for the live tasting are absolutely stellar!
Cutty Sark 17 Year Old: This iconic blended whisky brand was created by Berry Bros. & Rudd in 1923. On 23rd March. Over lunch. Current owner La Martiniquaise-Bardinet, meanwhile, have been busy. Here master blender Stephen Woodcock’s team married aged Highland and Speyside single malts for 17 months in sherry and Port casks before adding first-fill bourbon cask grain. It’s 40% malt, natural colour, and for our money shares a touch of tiramisu-laden DNA with their (>£900) Centenary blend…
Clynelish 8 Year Old - Sutherland (Thompson Bros.): The Thompson brothers (Phil and Simon) have always championed ‘old style’ whiskies, and put their beliefs into practice at the tiny Dornoch distillery from 2016. They're also award-winning indie bottlers and blenders. Based only a few miles from the revered Clynelish, it’s unsurprising that “its spirit has remained a constant obsession”, “the quintessential soul of Sutherland whisky—oily, mineral, and unmistakably waxy”. Small vatting, refill hogsheads, proud Highland spirit character.
Daftmill 15 Year Old Fife Strength (2026 Release): A true farm distillery. Compared to the other single estate distilleries - growing all their own barley - that we’ve featured, Daftmill is the smallest, was founded earliest (2005), and waited the longest before releasing their first whisky (12 years). And it was worth the wait! Production on the Cuthberts' sixth generation family farm remains tiny. Equal parts window into the 19th century and true pioneers. This is from a release of 3,294 bottles made with Publican barley harvested in 2009.
St James’s 10 Year Old: Word on the street is that most of this blend is more than 10 years. Possibly twice as old… Imagine casks-worth of old Speyside single malt being accidentally blended with 10 litres of a 10 year old blend. You’d only be able to say 10 Year Old (youngest component), and call it a blend (even if 99% single malt). Officially, we can say this new first batch features Speyside and the Highland malts, with “much of” the “Speyside component” rested in ex-Islay casks for a subtle smokiness..
Teeling Small Batch Amber Ale Cask Finish: Walter Teeling established a Dublin distillery back in 1782, and in 2015 it was Jack and Stephen who brought whiskey back to Dublin with the city's first new distillery in the in 125 years. This is a fun indie craft beer collaboration from back when we helped to distribute them. A 12 months+ finish (after 5 years in bourbon barrels) in DOT Brew Rum Red Dark VII Irish amber ale casks, a beer aged in (ex rum) peated and unpeated Teeling whiskey casks!
