August's Pour & Sip box is packing whiskies from new and old distilleries across Scotland and Japan, as well as a mysterious Islay single malt. Get ready for a range of different cask types too, and a few fermentation-focused delights. Let's get stuck in!
Lochlea Our Barley: The first ever core release from Lochlea, which benefits from a lengthy fermentation and a maturation in a combination of ex-bourbon, ex-sherry, and STR (shaved, toasted, and re-charred) casks.
Smokehead Rum Rebel: An Islay single malt finished in ex-Caribbean rum casks, the savoury, smoky notes from the whisky base pair brilliantly with the sweetness of the rum cask, which brings a very healthy dose of tropical fruit and sweetness to the spirit.
Glencadam 13 Year Old 2008 Réserve de Sauternes: Initially matured in American oak ex-bourbon casks before being moved to casks which previously held sweet Sauternes dessert wine, this single malt is full of stone fruits, tropical fruit, and butterscotch flavours.
Lindores Abbey Single Cask: Distilled in May 2018 entirely from Fife barley, this single malt was filled into the distillery’s 386th cask, an ex-bourbon barrel from Kentucky’s Old Forester. It was drawn from the cask in June 2022, with a yield of just 246 bottles – a sweet, fruit-forward, and gently creamy spirit.
Nikka Coffey Malt Whisky: Nothing to do with your morning brew, this Japanese whisky is distilled in a Coffey still, produced entirely from malted barley at Nikka’s Miyagikyo distillery. The malt is allowed to shine through in this release, full of notes of baked goods, woody spices, and citrus fruits.
