Product details
Daftmill’s a true farm distillery. Compared to the other single estate distilleries - growing all their own barley - that we’ve featured (Lochlea, Ballindalloch, Spirit of Yorkshire, and most recently Arbikie) Daftmill is the smallest, was founded earliest (2005), and waited the longest before releasing their first whisky (12 years). And it was worth the wait! Grassy, with buttery mouthfeel, it’s become something of a cult single malt.
Production on Francis & Ian Cuthbert’s sixth generation family farm remains tiny, only making whisky during a few short months when farmwork is quieter, and filling as few as 100 casks a year. They’re equal parts window into the 19th century and true pioneers. This is from a release of 3,294 bottles matured in 17 first-fill bourbon barrels. The barley variety was Publican, grown and harvested in Aug 2009, distilled in 2010 and 2011, and only just released in October!
