An array of Scotch and even a Japanese single malt feature in this month's selection, with well-loved classics alongside quite a few exciting new releases.

The Glenturret 12 Year Old (2023 Release): This is the 2023 release of The Glenturret’s 12 Year Old, dubbed the ‘heart and soul’ of the distillery’s whisky range. Fewer than 60 casks make the cut for each batch, with American oak bringing caramel sweetness to balance the dried fruit and spiciness of the European oak.

Lindores Abbey MCDXCIV: This is the first commercially available whisky from the Lindores Abbey distillery, named MCDXCIV (1494), aged in bourbon barrels, sherry butts, and STR Burgundy red wine barriques. A long fermentation and increased copper contact brings lots of creaminess and ripe fruit notes, while the cask recipe adds weight and depth to the Lowland single malt.

Miyagikyo Single Malt: This is one of the few single malts from Japanese whisky producer Nikka, hailing from its Miyagikyo distillery. Made with peated as well as unpeated malt, variety of yeast strains bring estery ripe fruit aromas to the whisky, while sherry cask influence brings dark fruit notes alongside subtle hints of smoky richness.

The Glenlivet 15 Year Old French Oak Reserve: The Glenlivet claims to be one of the first to use French oak in whisky production, and this 15 Year Old is matured in Limousin oak from France’s Dordogne region (where it’s often used to mature Cognac). The oak’s low density allows the whisky to absorb deep into the wood, imparting a rich spiciness to the fruity whisky.

Ardmore 9 Year Old - The Eagle Has Landed - Cask Noir (Brave New Spirits): This independently bottled Ardmore is part of the new Cask Noir series from Brave New Spirits. Distilled at the end of 2013, the peated Highland whisky spent nine years in a first-fill Rivesaltes wine barrique before being bottled at cask strength. Sweet, smoky, and decidedly different, this is Ardmore like you’ve never tasted before.
