Product details
Based on the outskirts of Fort William, the Ben Nevis story is a winding one, with its licence officially acquired in 1825. It closed in 1908, changed hands, restarted production in 1955 with a new Coffey still, fell silent in 1978, before it was refurbed and restarted in 1981. Whew! In 1989, it was sold to Japan’s Nikka, which still owns it today.
The whiskies in the Hepburn’s Choice series from Hunter Laing are blended from single casks or tiny batches, each one chosen to showcase the characteristics of one of Scotland’s whisky producing regions, or those of a distillery in particular. This single malt was distilled at Ben Nevis in 2011, and entirely matured for 11 years in a single sherry butt. A total of 880 bottles were released for the Hepburn’s Choice series in 2023, without colouring or chill filtration.
