Product details
After Macallan became legal in 1824, until the early 1980s it was predominantly used in blends! Imagine that. Part of the Double Cask range, this 12 Year Old is matured in a blend of oloroso sherry-seasoned American and European oak casks. A dreamy well-known marriage, the buttery American oak and the spicier European oak work beautifully with the fruitiness of the sherry and the distillery’s oily, heavy new make style.
This distinctive style comes from its small stills, coming in at less than four metres high and with a capacity of just 3,900 litres each. But Macallan places a heavy emphasis on the role of wood and wood seasoning in its practices, maintaining that casks make the greatest contribution to the quality and flavours of its single malt, bottling its whiskies without any colour.
