Product details
As the name suggests, this Welsh single malt from Penderyn puts the wonder of oak influence front and centre! Founded in 1998, it was the first (legal) distiller in Wales in over 100 years when it opened its home in the Brecon Beacons. The distillery boasts a unique Faraday still in its setup, which is something between a pot and a column still, allowing the team to distil the whisky to a very high ABV (between 88-92%), meaning it’s light and fruity in flavour.
Initially a limited edition, Rich Oak is now a permanent fixture in the range, matured in both bourbon and shaved, toasted, and re-charred (STR) wine casks. STR was pioneered by the late Dr. Jim Swan, who was one of the founders of Penderyn and served as master blender, and in the process the casks are rejuvenated, allowing the wood to impart more flavour to the whisky.
