Millstone 4 Year Old (That Boutique-y Whisky Company)

This rich, peated Dutch single malt comes to us from Zuidam Distillery in the Netherlands, founded by Fred van Zuidam in 1975. It was independently bottled under the Millstone name by That Boutique-y Whisky Company, and while at four years old it’s fairly youthful, that doesn’t mean it’s not deliciously complex.

While it was heavily peated to 50 PPM, the long fermentation time and narrow cut mean that the smoke is a little subdued. It spent its days in two first-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry hogsheads personally selected by Patrick van Zuidam, so expect a decadent balance of rich, fruity sweetness from the sherry, a good helping of baking spices, and hints of earthy smoke.
