Highland Park Cask Strength - Release No.4
You Save: £10.00
Based on the rugged island of Orkney off the northeastern coast of Scotland, Highland Park was founded in 1798 (though the distillery was only officially licensed in 1826). Unlike on mainland Scotland or Islay, Orcadian peat is made up of sphagnum moss and heather, imparting a distinctive floral note to the peated whisky. It’s also one of the few distilleries that still turns its malt by hand, doing so every eight hours to ensure the peat smoke is distributed evenly throughout the barley.
The Cask Strength series showcases Highland Park’s whisky straight from the cask, allowing its hallmark peat smoke notes to shine. Launched in June 2023, Release No.4 was matured predominantly in first-fill sherry seasoned European oak casks, along with first-fill sherry seasoned American oak casks, a small quantity of refill casks, and – for the first time – Port casks too.
Warming oak, oily citrus zest, and hallmark heathery peat smoke with a touch of vanilla.
Fairly zesty and floral, with pink grapefruit and lemon blossom, while oak spiciness and lively peat smoke keep things rich.
Sweet and spicy, with liquorice and Christmas spices alongside more of that heather and gentle peat smoke.
