Glen Scotia 12 Year Old Seasonal Release 2022

Glen Scotia treats us to a bottling of its Seasonal Release each year, and this is the 2022 edition. The unpeated single malt was matured for 12 years, initially in first-fill bourbon barrels before a year-long finish in amontillado sherry casks. It was bottled at cask strength without any colour, packed full of dry spices, coastal savoury flecks, and nuttiness. 

As is the case with many Scotch whisky distilleries, Glen Scotia has had its ups and downs, founded in Campbeltown in 1832 when the region was a major hub of Scotch whisky production with 28 or so distilleries – now there are just three. The distillery managed to survive despite closing in 1928, restarting production in 1933, and closing once more in 1984, reopening for good in 2000 when Loch Lomond Group took over. Thank goodness it stood the test of time so that we can enjoy complex whiskies just like this one!
