Product details
The Isle of Arran once boasted 50 distilleries, though the last legally founded distillery before Lochranza, where Arran whisky is distilled, closed in 1837. While island whiskies are generally associated with more savoury, smoky flavours, Arran is full of sweeter, malty, citrus notes.
This Quarter Cask edition is initially matured in first-fill bourbon barrels, before being moved for a secondary maturation into smaller American oak quarter casks, aptly-named because they’re a quarter of the size of a standard whiskey barrel. Coming in at just 125 litres, this vastly increases the surface-area-to-volume ratio between the spirit and the wood, accelerating the effects of maturation. We’re talking big flavours of vanilla sweetness and peppery spice, proudly displayed at cask strength.
