Whiskies from Ireland, Illinois, Israel, and Scotland (they couldn’t all begin with the letter ‘i’!) are packed into April’s Pour & Sip box, with a mystery Scotch single grain, and smoky Highland single malt rounding off this wonderful selection. There’s a lot to unpack here, so let’s dive in!
Whisky Works Glaswegian 29 Year Old: A well-aged single grain from a mystery distillery which ‘once stood at the heart of Scotland’s waterways’ in the eponymous Scottish city. Its years were spent in American white oak barrels, so there’s heaps of buttery sweetness to enjoy.
FEW Rye Whiskey: Distilled in Evanston, Illinois, FEW Rye is made with a mash bill of 70% rye, 20% corn, and 10% malted barley – so there’s all those herbaceous, spiced notes from the lead grain among a melange of fruitier flavours.
Milk & Honey Classic Single Malt: A single malt from Milk & Honey, Israel’s first whisky distillery based in Tel Aviv! It’s matured in ex-bourbon and virgin oak casks, as well as Burgundy red wine-seasoned STR casks (which stands for shaved, toasted and re-charred), imparting lots of red fruit and chocolatey flavours in this rich whisky.
Cù Bòcan Signature: Cù Bòcan (pronounced ‘coo-bock-can’) is the name for Tomatin Distillery’s smoky series of single malts. This Signature expression is matured in a trio of ex-bourbon, ex-Oloroso sherry, and North American virgin oak casks, imparting creamy, tropical notes; spicier flavours; and zesty, refreshing nuances respectively.
Waterford Arcadian - Gaia 1.1: The Waterford team in Ireland created the Arcadian series to look at terroir in barley, and this is its first release, Gaia 1.1, an organic single malt. It’s distilled from Irish barley grown by seven different farmers, and matured in a combination of first-fill American oak, and smaller proportions of French oak, virgin American oak, and ex-Vin Doux Naturel (naturally sweet wine) casks.
